Leaving Lagos

Leading up to the holidays there were so many festive activities. We put on “The Incredible Reindeer” performance at school, I went to three different holiday dinners and a Christmas brunch. At the brunch we exchanged “go-slow” gifts for 1500 Naira ($12) or less. The “go-slow” is like a shopping mall right at your car window every time you slow down in the traffic jams, where basically any random item is sold. At our brunch, people received items such as Santa hats that light up, sausage rolls, beer, phone cards, etc. Imagine all of these Christmas activities with it being 90 degrees outside. Although I still really missed being at home, it was nice that celebrating went on in Lagos. I also changed types of malaria meds just in time before it made me any crazier and I feel so much better now. That, in combination with knowing that I would be leaving Lagos for the holiday, I think I can finally say that I am getting used to living in Nigeria. I accidentally called my flat “home” once, and that won’t be happening again, but all in all, I’m finally settled in.
These are pictures that I took on my way to the airport, excited for my trip but even more excited to see my mom after 4 months!
