My first trip to the beach went pretty smoothly. A group of 5 cars left the school and drove about an hour to the beach. It didn’t rain and there was very little traffic. There was only one roadblock and our car didn’t even get stopped. We turned onto the side road right near the beach and a group of guys charged us 300 Naira for our car to enter the beach area. My impression is that they created a roadblock to earn money, but they even had real printed tickets. There were several really cute beach huts and a large group of guys swarmed our cars trying to get us to rent one. We were in search of a specific one that belongs to the counselor at our school...to me they all looked the same, but we found it. We were immediately found by all of the vendors. It turned out to be a beautiful day at the beach if you ignored all of the garbage. It felt really good to get away and to realize just how beautiful it could be so close to the city.
